021racing Croagh Patrick pilgrimage run!

June 21st, 2010 ThatGuy No comments

On Friday last some of us made the trip up to Croagh Patrick to ride it on our bicycles.  After a few nightcaps in the pub we crawled into whatever space we had made for ourselves in between bikes and bags in the back of the van for what felt like 5minutes of sleep. . We started off up the long climb at 5 bells and to my surprise met people already on the hill. . . A nice lady out for a quite stroll, a legend who almost made it down by foot as quick as we did on bikes, 3 lunatics aiming to get up and down the hill 9 times in 24hrs, plus a number of tents, nice a place as any for a spot of camping i suppose.

We got back to the bottom, after a few gnarly incidents and a few busted parts, then we headed for derroura and did a lap there, which was… fun!

All in all, it was a great weekends riding, all wrapped up into 7 hours on a fine Saturday morning. Here’s a video Gregoreous Callaghan made.

2010 Irish DH NPS Round 4

May 10th, 2010 ThatGuy No comments

NPS Rd4 Poster

On May 15th & 16th, 021 Racing is proud to bring you the fourth round of the 2010 Irish Downhill National Points Series, to be held just outside Cahir, Co. Tipperary.

Pre entry for this event can be completed HERE

Please use this as it is a huge benefit to the race organizers

Race Track

Starting on top of the hill with great views of the surrounding countryside there are a number rocky turns before entering the forest. Then a very fast flowing section featuring a right hand hip followed by a left hand hip (both rollable) into two huge berms leading up to the step-up (B line available). A large right hand berm brings you onto a rooty off camber section over a rock jump onto another off camber section with a tricky tight turn. A series of rooty turns brings you into the revised run-in to the road gap. The run-in is now faster with a jump then a berm shooting you into the take off (B line available). NOTE, the road gap will not be rollable this year! A choice of two parallel run-outs from the road gap bring you into a tricky section with a number of line choices, all leading into a nice right hand catch berm followed by a left hand berm. A rough section with a bit of off camber followed by a tricky right hander followed by another rough section after a right turn brings you into a brand spanking new road gap. Following the road gap the new section starts with a right hand berm shooting you straight into new section with a few different cambers and a gully back out onto the fire road. crossing the fire road brings you back into the woods and over a small jump carrying your speed for the finish its back onto a rough and rooty section leading into a fast open section and over the final berm and jump into the finishing area.

Event

As usual with an 021 event we will have catering, live timing and uplifts.

Timing will be provided by NACC.

Monster Energy will be providing energy for the weekend.

Top 5 prizes for U14, U16, Junior, Senior & Elite Categories will be sponsored by Transition Bikes and Dakine.

There will be toilet facilities available

Uplifts

Uplifts will be running on both the Saturday and Sunday. No race number = no uplift.  Riding the course without a number over the course of the event will jeopardise the event since you are not covered under the events insurance or medical support.

Venue Considerations

021racing would like to remind all riders and spectators that the race is on Coillte land. Downhill racing relies heavily on the kind support of Coillte for race venues and it is important that the positive relationship that has been built up by 021racing is not jeopardised by leaving litter in the forest or causing tension with locals through inconsiderate behaviour. You are also reminded that mini bikes and the like are not permitted under any circumstances.

Parking

Parking is at a premium so please park your vehicles sensibly and allow local traffic easy access so that the event doesn’t unnecessarily attract the attention of the Gardai or cause issues for Coillte or local residents.
The larger car park area at the bottom of the track is restricted to campers and larger vans – please co-operate with the race organisers on this matter so larger vehicles are not parked on the road causing blockages. Please park your car along the side of the forest road just after the camper/van carpark.

As you approach Cahir, just before the new motorway flyover (overhead) take the right hand turn. Drive up the hill and past the houses and make a left turn at the next junction. Continue on past a number of other houses and go straight through the staggered crossroads and on to the parking area..

Irish DH NPS3 Report

May 10th, 2010 ThatGuy No comments

Last weekend saw the Irish Downhill National Points Series roll into Dunmanway, West Cork for Round 3 of the Series, organised by 021racing.

After the scorching dusty weather in Kerry for Round 2, it was no surprise that we were treated to some wet and wild West Cork weather!

Clashnacrona woods is notorios among Irish DH courses especially if it’s the steep track, which is regarded as the toughest course of the series.

The course starts off at the top of the mountain, where riders are treated to a motorway section similar to Fort William, except a bit quicker, littered with ski jumps, double jumps and step ups.  This is a nice warm up, before you drop into the woods, this is where the fun started!  Riders were treated to some very steep shoots, off camber rooty corners, the steep rock section that claimed many a victim!  All served up with lashings of mud!  Downhill is meant to be hard.

This event was made all the more special by the presence of the Chain Reaction Cycles World Cup Team.  Chris Kovarik, Matti Leikonein, Matt Simmonds and Claire Buchar all turned up to get some early season mud traing on board there Intense M9 proto type bikes!  This was huge news for Irish Downhill!

The racing got under way with the U14’s and 021racings Luke Cornforth not only dominated this category but set one of the fastest times of the day on board his Solid Mission 7.  Jacob Dickson from PotatoBred took 2nd spot in the tricky conditions.  021racings Robert Crowley took 3rd.

The U16’s were missing the series leader Dan Sheridan, so 021racings Cam Cornforth wasted no time in stamping his authority on the race, his biggest competition was making sure he baet his younger brother Luke, which he did by .5 of a second!  2nd place went to Angus Fyffe with Joseph Farrelly sliding into 3rd spot.

CRC/Intense rider Clare Buchar showed that she had the skills to cope with the tricky conditions to take the win ahead of Michelle McMullan from Chain Reaction Cycles.

Super Vets were missing Flow Racings Tom Sheridan, Banbridge CC’s Victor Mc Minn took the win ahead of Flow Racings Peter Popham with CRC’s Derek Cowan in 3rd place.

The Vets category was dominated by Chain Reaction Cycles Ian McIntyre fresh out of the Masters!  PotatoBreds Mark Dickson slid through the mud to take 2nd placce ahead of Carl Young in 3rd!

Sports, Moycullen Bike Works/ Transitions Derek Davoren took the win ahead of local man, West Cork MTBs Adrian Nowotysnki with 021racings Wesley O Connor back in 3rd spot.

The Senior Men was won by Kevin Factory Coughlan, taking his maiden win ahead of Killarney CC’s Jason Sandbagger Murphy in 2nd with 021racings Damien Princess Daly returning to form in 3rd.

The Masters is always very tight and this time it was Epic’s Sean Herlihy taking the win ahead of CRC’s Micheal Cowan and podium regular Dale Mc Mullan from CRC took 3rd.

Juniors was won by Flow Racings Gavin Carroll, who seems to have found some good form, CRC’s Christopher Mcglinchey took 2nd ahead of Flows Gavin Kelly.

The Elites, had an international field and with two former World Cup winners on the startlist, the Irish lads were ready for a crack at the Pros!  CRC/ Intenses Chris Kovariks was the fastest man of the day on a 2.07, just .1 of a second of 2nd place CRC/Intense Matt Simmonds, Fastest Irishman was Colin Ross on a 2.11 in third, New man on the scene Micheal Boyd had an amazing run to finish in 4th place ahead of CRC/Intense Matti Leikonen in 5th!

It was a great weekends racing and you wont have to wait  to long to do it all again, Round 4 is on in Cahir, Co. Tipperary on the 15/16 May.

See you there!

021racing on the podium in Wicklow

February 1st, 2010 rory No comments

The Cornforth brothers were on the podium again at round 2 of the Winter Series in Cloon Co. wicklow.

Cameron was on board his new Solid Mission 9 and finished in 2nd place in the U16 behind Tomacs Dan Sheridan who was the 4th fastest rider overall!

Luke Cornforth squeezed every second out of his Solid Harlem hardtail, but was just pipped into 2nd spot by Jake Dickson on his full suspension Iron Horse! Rumours say that Luke is going to be piloting a Solid Mission 7 very soon!

021racing was well represented in all categories by Denis Corkery, Kevin Ryan, the other Kev, Bobby St Ledger, Wesley O Connor and  Damien Daly on his new Trek Session. I however could not race after having had one too many cheeseburgers over the winter. Needless to say Im currently at weight watchers and will be back on the bike soon.

Well done to all!
